This urgent meeting is being held to <span class=\"pre--maker span-stk-maker-pink\">immediately<\/span> curb the spread of such hate speech.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Hate speech is a severe violation of human rights, trampling on the dignity of those targeted and stripping them of their power to respond or express themselves. Moreover, it can incite hate crimes and harm societal interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June 2016, the <a href=\"https:\/\/hourei.net\/law\/428AC1000000068\">Act on the Promotion of Efforts to Eliminate Unjust Discriminatory Speech and Behavior Against Foreign Nationals Residing in Japan<\/a> was enacted. However, since hate speech is not explicitly banned, it is fair to say that hate speech regulations in Japan remain inadequate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first part of this meeting, we will screen a short version of the film \u201cTokyo Kurds,\u201d which closely depicts the lives of Kurds living in Japan, as well as a segment from TBS&#8217;s \u201cHodo Tokushu\u201d focusing on hate speech against Kurds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the second part, a discussion will be held featuring representatives from Kurdish support groups, journalists, and lawyers, shedding light on the impact of hate speech on the Kurdish community and its underlying issues.
