Sanrizuka Katteren is a loose online network of individuals who sympathize with the so-called Sanrizuka Struggle (the Narita Airport Protest) and aim to support and stand in solidarity with Sanrizuka farmers in various ways. The minimum common ground is that members support the “Sanrizuka Struggle,” including its history and current situation.

Sanrizuka Katteren – Let’s Gather in Sanrizuka!
The Sanrizuka Struggle takes place in a rural area surrounded by the airport. Despite having many potential supporters, it sees fewer individual participants compared to urban movements like the anti-nuclear protests. This led to the creation of Katteren, where people who met by chance on the Japanese social network mixi (Mixi) started participating in local gatherings, realizing that even citizens unaffiliated with any group or movement could contribute meaningfully. It became a place for like-minded individuals to participate easily.
As a result, Katteren’s main hub was formed as a private community on Mixi, with around 60 members participating. Meetings usually saw 5–10 members attending together. From its inception, the community welcomed supporters of both the old Kitahara faction and the old Atsuta faction, encouraging individual decisions on supporting the struggle or engaging in exchange.
However, as Mixi itself has declined and many have stopped using it, including members of Katteren, communication and coordination have become increasingly difficult. We are currently exploring alternatives. This platform, as the “Katteren Branch on HataHata,” will provide information and support for participation in gatherings, farming assistance, and purchasing fresh produce directly from farmers.

While Katteren members may not always participate, those who wish to join but feel hesitant to go alone are welcome to contact us. Look for the Katteren flag at outdoor gatherings and feel free to join us in demonstrations or other activities.
